ABIRATERONE 250 MG TABLETS - A HORMONAL THERAPY FOR PROSTATE CANCER

What is Hormone Therapy ?

Hormones occur naturally in your body. They control the growth and activity of normal cells. Testosterone is a male hormone mainly made by the testicles.

Prostate cancer depends on testosterone to grow. Hormone therapy blocks or lowers the amount of testosterone in the body. This can lower the risk of an early prostate cancer coming back when you have it with other treatments. Or it can shrink an advanced prostate cancer or slow its growth.

Hormone Therapy Options Include:
  • Medications that stop your body from producing testosterone. Medications known as luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH) agonists prevent the testicles from receiving messages to make testosterone. Drugs typically used in this type of hormone therapy include leuprolide (Lupron, Eligard), goserelin (Zoladex), triptorelin (Trelstar) and histrelin (Vantas). Other drugs sometimes used include ketoconazole and abiraterone (Zytiga).
  • Medications that block testosterone from reaching cancer cells. Medications known as anti-androgens prevent testosterone from reaching your cancer cells. Examples include bicalutamide (Casodex), flutamide, and nilutamide (Nilandron). The drug enzalutamide (Xtandi) may be an option when other hormone therapies are no longer effective.
  • Surgery to remove the testicles (orchiectomy). Removing your testicles reduces testosterone levels in your body.
Hormone therapy is used in men with advanced prostate cancer to shrink the cancer and slow the growth of tumors. In men with early-stage prostate cancer, hormone therapy may be used to shrink tumors before radiation therapy. This can make it more likely that radiation therapy will be successful.

Are There Any Early Signs of Kidney Cancer ?

Knowing Risk of Getting Kidney Cancer

Kidney cancer is not as common as breast or #lungcancer. For most people, the chance to develop kidney cancer in their life is less than 2 per cent
Your risk increases if you smoke, are obese, or have been exposed to chemicals such as asbestos and benzene. Sometimes kidney cancer can run in families. If you are at high risk, talk to your doctor and follow the signs.

Difficult to find Kidney Cancer

When someone has cancer of the skin, they can see an unusual growth on the skin. #Breastcancer is sometimes found when a woman finds a lump in her breast, and it often can be found on routine screening mammography. Since the kidney is so deep inside the body, it is difficult to find kidney cancer, just by looking or feeling for growths.

Although mammograms and colonoscopies are screening of breast and #colorectalcancer, there is no screening test available for #kidneycancer in people who are not at high risk of disease.

Imaging tests such as computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can detect cancer in the kidney. However, these tests are costly, and they typically can not differentiate between renal and non-cancerous growth.

Typically, doctors recommend only CT or MRI scans for very high risk of kidney cancer because of genetic diseases such as von Hippel-Landau disease.

Symptoms of kidney cancer

Kidney cancer usually does not cause symptoms until the tumor has grown. The most common symptom of kidney cancer is blood in the urine or hematuria. If the amount of blood is too small to be seen by the naked eye, your doctor can find it through a urine test.

It is important to remember that noticing that the blood in your urine does not mean you have kidney cancer. Other conditions, such as infection or kidney stones, can also cause such symptoms.

Other symptoms

Blood in the urine is the main symptom of kidney cancer, but there are other symptoms. Other symptoms include :
  • pain in the side or lower back
  • feeling a mass on your abdomen, side, or lower back
  • a fever
  • night sweats
  • fatigue
  • an overall sick feeling
  • losing weight without trying
  • swelling of the ankles
Other diseases, such as influenza or back injury can cause many of these symptoms. But if these symptoms do not go away, talk to your doctor.

Diagnosis of Renal Cell Carcinoma

Many different tests can help your doctor diagnose kidney cancer:
  • Urine tests can find traces of blood in the urine.
  • Blood tests can detect chemicals that the kidneys are supposed to remove from the body.
  • CT, MRI, and ultrasonography create pictures of the kidneys and allow doctors to look for growths that may be cancerous.
  • A biopsy involves removing a piece of tissue from the kidneys to be examined under a microscope for cancer.

Treatment for Kidney Cancer

If you have kidney cancer, your doctor will find out how advanced it is and whether it has spread to other parts of your body. This is called staging. It helps your doctor determine the right treatment for you. They will also refer you to a cancer specialist.

Many different treatments can be used for kidney cancer. Radiation, chemotherapy and surgery can help stop cancer and improve your long-term prospects.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month - October

October is #BreastCancer Awareness Month when worldwide annual campaigns are carried out to highlight the importance of breast cancer awareness, education and research.

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of the breast and can gradually spread to other parts of the body.

With the help of regular mammography screening, breast cancers can be found at an early stage. The most common sign of breast cancer is a lump formation in the breast. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. may develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime.

Breast cancers can start from different parts of the breast, with the most common ones beginning in the ducts that carry milk to the nipple (ductal cancers). Some start in the glands that make breast milk (lobular cancers). It can spread through the lymph system, which includes lymph nodes, lymph vessels and lymph fluid found throughout the body.
